Mazaher is an ensemble in which women play a leading role. The musicians of Mazaher, Umm Sameh, Umm Hassan, Nour el Sabah are among the last remaining Zar practitioners in Egypt. The music is inspired by the three different styles musical styles of the Zar tradition practiced in Egypt.

الزار هو من الأشكال الموسيقية القليلة التى تحتل فيها المرأة (الكودية) دورا أساسيا. وتعود أهميته الفنية لكونه من الفنون التى عاشت فى الظلام حتى الآن، نظرا لمحاصرة المجتمع المثقف والدولة لها فاحتفظت بقوامها وأصولها ولم تتاثر أو تتلوث بفنون موسيقية أخرى. والطنبورة والزار موجودان أيضا فى الجزيرة العربية واليمن والخليج العربى والعراق وإيران. والزار فى مصر ينقسم الى ثلاثة أنواع: الزار المصرى او الصعيدى وأبو الغيط. والزار السودانى أو الأفريقى ويرجع البعض أصول هذا الأخير ايضا الى النوبة القديمة.
