BabelMed Music2007
For the second consecutive year, the Anna Lindh Foundation together with Dock Des Suds, co-organized the World Music Festival Babel Med that took place between 29 and 31 March 2007 in Marseilles, France. This annual event is a ‘musical marketplace’, during which musicians, music-industry professionals and cultural managers can present their work and their organizations and create professional links with one another. 5 Conferences on the theme of “Musical creation and cultural exchange” and up to 30 concerts also took place in the framework of the festival. During the 2007 Edition, two groups were acknowledged for having contributing, through their music, in promoting intercultural dialogue. This year Romengo, a Gypsy Band from Hungary, and the group Mazaher from Egypt for Zar music and songs, received the Anna Lindh Foundation’s special prize for “Music for Intercultural Dialogue”.
During the 2006 Babel Med Festival, the Anna Lindh Foundation awarded Techno Roman Project from Turkey, whose music represents a fusion of traditional Turkish tzigane (gypsy) and electronic music, and Yasmin Levy from Israel, who revives the music of the Ladino/Judeo-Spanish heritage and mixes it with Andalusian Flamenco.
